Industrial Motions, Inc. Continues to Deliver Results
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - August 23, 2017 -- Goodyear's Fayetteville, N.C., tire factory is one of the biggest in the world, with over 2,000 production associates and a daily production capacity of approximately 35,000 tires per day. Industrial Motions, Inc., has contracted with the Fayetteville factory since 2007 to provide in-house physical therapy services for the Goodyear associates. In 2013, the plant began an injury prevention initiative developed by Industrial Motions physical therapist Frank Murray MSPT. Called the Ergonomic Sandbox project, its primary function is to reduce the frequency and severity of sprains and strains related to manual material handling tasks. "The basic premise of the program is simple," said Frank Murray. "If we develop the material-handling skills of the associates, they are able to perform material handling tasks with reduced risk of injury by controlling the variables which cause musculoskeletal injury. We want anyone who performs lifting, pushing or pulling activities at work to think of themselves as professional material handlers. Professionals have the skills and knowledge to get the job done, and they do it SAFELY."
This program has helped the Fayetteville plant achieve year-over-year reductions in workers' compensation costs since 2013, and this year is trending in the same direction. In a year-over-year comparison, the 2018 workers' compensation cost is projected to be 60 percent less than 2013. This is great news for the plant since it helps the plant's competitive position. While cost is important, safety is the primary consideration for Plant Manufacturing Director Louis Lapierre, who oversaw the initial development and implementation of the program. "First and foremost, we do not want our team members to suffer any type of injury," Lapierre states. The Ergo Sandbox initiative is a perfect fit for Fayetteville, he added, since the program has been so successful in the reduction of sprains and strains. "It has been a solid investment," Lapierre noted. "It's a win-win for everyone." RALEIGH-FAYETTVILLE NC -- Extra cheese please! Industrial Motions, Inc. announced a new contract signed with the Great Lakes Cheese company of Hiram, Ohio. Great Lakes Cheese is one of the largest producers of consumer grade cheese in the country.
Director of Employee Health and Safety, Jacalyn McCarthy, says "If you see it on the supermarket shelf, it is likely to come from one of our facilities." Industrial Motions will be providing Material Handlers Skills training, Work Day Warm-up exercises, and Employee Engagement Programs for all nine Great Lake's locations, starting with the four largest packaging facilities.
